Performance Ratings of Selected New York City Highways
This interactive slide show allows users to view traffic congestion maps of major highways in the New York metropolitan area, morning and evening commuter periods, as of the fall of 2007. Bottlenecks are depicted on maps with red and orange arrowheads; these arrowheads are linked to highlight aerial photographs which show typical congested conditions at each bottleneck. Each photo window has an information tab that displays basic characteristics of each bottleneck (the type of congestion, frequency, extent, severity, duration and/or apparent cause). The information tab also allows the user to open the original, full-resolution, un-cropped survey photo in a new window. (Follow link named "Congestion Maps and Photos" to the left.)
Complete performance rating tables for each surveyed highway have been built and assembled into a comprehensive underlying PDF report, suitable for local printing. This and other resources for downloading and printing are also found by following the "Additional Resources" link to the left.
A complete description of the underlying survey program, together with the underlying methodology and performance rating system, can be found by following the link named "Survey Information" to the left.
The underlying data on which the mobility findings are based can be accessed through a data extraction tool; this tool also allows users to create charts according to user-selected filters. (Follow the link named "Survey Data" to the left.)
