Closing my eyes, I can in reality 'consider' the blustery C. P. Snow flying all around me. Being a Windham Hill collection, most of the songs on this CD are fancy with feeling and lush in occurrence. I HIGHLY advocate it. Another must-pick up is Liz Story's (no relation) tripping "Snowfall" which is such lighter in musical note and reminds me of Vince Guaraldi's gall for "A Charlie Brown Christmas": you can most comprehend the snowflakes falling. Other Windham Hill regulars are along for the outing also including Nightnoise, Alex de Grassi, Philip Aaberg, Shadowfax, and the duo of Brian Dunning and Jeff Johnson. The song, "Asleep the Snow Came Falling" is the most intensely evocative music I have e'er heard - and I've heard a LOT of music in my 42 years. If a passionate bosom could address without words, this song is what it would measure like. From the opening cut, Kit Walker's "First Snow", to the lowest, Scott Cossu's "Last Snow", each item is a winter gem and since there are no intimate interfaith or secular Christmas songs, you can rivet to this winter-themed CD from the first frost late fokay adequate the spring warming. Other highlights include John Beasley's delightful take over Debussy's "Snowflakes are Dancing" which first appeared on the excellent Windham Hill sampler Impressionists: Windham Hill Sampler and Oystein Sevag's "Crystal Palace".
