Yes, it's got the obligitory inclusion of Isaac Hayes "Shaft" and the brilliant Curtis Mayfield's classical "Superfly", but it's Harlem Sessions' more unconnected tracks that get the better of a must-have for any funkhead. All that's missing are the bell-bottoms and an Afro wig. At times funky and different times jazzy, this is a must have in your collection. We have some favorites here, but included are some cuts that haven't seen the ethical motive of day in years. The alone disappointment is the demand of liner notes. "Harlem Sessions" sounds like your favourite compounding finishing line you made many another years ago; the I that you record playing again and again because it has all your preferred, geographical area-islsongs. There was very much of very bland, unstylish music made in the 70's, but you won't find out any of it here. Of direction, you can't realistically include EVERY extraordinary soul collective from the 1970s on deuce CDs, but this compilation does a gravid job trying. It would have been nice to have had some content on Pucho & the Latin Soul Brothers, e.g.. While galore of the films that these tunes eminate from are downright unpleasant, the music is stock-still unbelievably weapons-grade after all these years. It's a groovilicious compilation of killer soul cuts from the 1970s, with blaxploitation films as the chief theme.
