Skycomp, Inc. provides consulting services for transportation agencies and the engineering firms they hire. We capture highway traffic flow parameters through the use of observation and time-lapse aerial photography and video. Most of our work can be classified into one of the four following categories:

  1. Performance Monitoring Programs

Photo-density surveys repeated region-wide every 1 to 3 years are used to document the benefits of completed projects or to show the consequences of insufficient investment. Agency managers and officials fully understand how their networks are functioning with insight not possible through other sensor- or probe-based methods.

  2. Mobility audits for planning studies

Bottleneck inventories are produced by deploying survey aircraft across small or large highway networks. Quantitative or qualitative data are captured that are too hard, unsafe, or expensive to get using traditional ground methods.

  3. OD, weaving and route tracing

True origin-destination tables can be generated for complex weaving zones for micro-simulation model calibration. Working with aligned high-resolution digital photos taken at a rate of one frame every two seconds, Skycomp uses its proprietary SkyTracker2 software to trace actual routes taken by vehicles. Urban truck-route compliance documentation is a recently-discovered use for these methods.

  4. Photos-only data capture for documentation and client analysis

Skycomp uses its normal methods to establish flight routes to capture highway traffic flow using time-lapse aerial photography and video. After photos are aligned to improve user viewing, all materials are delivered to the client for analysis or documentation purposes.

REPUTATION

for creativity and competence
  • surveys every 1-3 years
  • uniform methods
  • insight for managers

Yes, Skycomp gets hard-to-get data, but we also bring the highway system into the conference room for a clear understanding of traffic conditions.
